Review: The Martian by Andy Weir

Page count: 435

Format: audible/ebook

Genre: science fiction/action & Adventure

Rating: 5/5

Summary: it was supposed to be a regular space mission to Mars when a freak storm happens. Most got off planet except for Mark Watney who they thought was dead. However some how he survived but now Mark Watney has  a bigger challenge ahead of him. Trying to survive Mars with his skills and pure luck.

My thoughts: Even though the science went mostly over my head. However the humor and things that Watney had to go through made this a five stars for me. He was left for dead on Mars for two months before NASA even knew he was alive. And it took a total of a year and half before rescue. And do you know what can happen in that year and half a lot of crazy things that made Watney think outside the box.
Mark Watney as a character was great. Even though he was alone on Mars with no water, food, water, and everyone thinks your dead. However Watney has the best humor though it all and though he had his freak outs, his humor was always there. And he needed it as nothing always went smoothly on Mars.

Example of humor:

Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshipped.

it’s true, you know. In space, no one can hear you scream like a little girl.

My asshole is doing as much work as my brain

Things he had to battle with:

-like I said before no food, water, or air.

-Trying not to blow himself up (which was more often then not).

-Trying to find communtion

-Machine fixing

-Dust storms

-and disco and 70s tv shows.
I loved this book and now I cant wait to see the movie at some point. If your not a science person some of what’s said may go over your head. But don’t let that stop you pick up these book, and see all the crazy things Mark Watney went through. And one thing I’ve found is truth is that

love for science is universal across all cultures

Because a whole lot of people came together to get one man back home with his crew mates.
