Review of Wings (a so so beginning) by Aprilynne Pike

Series: Wings #1

Format/page count: paperback/294

Publisher/year: HarperTeen/2011

Summary: Laurel thought just moving to a new town and, going to school would be the hard part. However she will quickly learn that’s the least of her problems.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed this book and am going to be continuing the series. However this book was just a meh read. As the first book has the whole weird stuff began to happen to Laurel and come to find out she’s a faerie and now trying to learn all she can about it. (Without of course telling her parents but tell her new best friend).Which was cool that Pike put a biology spin on how Laurel and David found out more about what Laurel could do. If you ever watched the Thirteenth Year an old Disney movie from my childhood. Laurels story pretty much can be summed up the same way except for a merman it’s faerie. Plus there is a love triangle and more danger.
The romance was okay I can’t help but feel bad for Tamani the Spring faire who helps give Laurel the information about her heritage. especially when we find out how long he’s been waiting for Laurel. Plus David is such a sweetheart who has been raised by his mother and learn how to be a respectful young man. Any girl would love to take home. And the thing about this love triangle is I like both guy interest. Kinda like in the infernal devices between Will and Jem. I liked both of them and that’s the starting problem I have with this book. Which may change as there are 3 more books in the series.
Another thing it dragged a little and it didn’t really pick up until Laurels dad got sick. After that it got more interesting to read. Being the first book it’s a introduction piece and the rest of the books will be more action base. Or a girl can dream right.
Finally Rating: 3/5

So if you’ve read this book and seen thirteen years(If you have seen the movie major points).Tell me if am not the only one who see’s some of the parallels.

My Current Reads is Growing Everday

So I haven’t been finishing books that often. My current reads pile has been growing more than anything else which is a pain. Okay so my summaries are the worse but its how I do reviews. So please bare with them and the reasons behind not finishing my books.

1.Wings by Aprilynne Pike 13%

So the story is based on Laurel who has been homeschooled until her Sophomore year. Now Laurel has to get used to public school and being around kids. Until weird things started happening to her starting with a bump on her back. Just started this book through e-book. Its been on my e-book TBR for awhile and I have heard a lot of good things about it. I usual don’t like high school books for the drama that happens in them that I don’t think is necessary. However this book is so far is good enough that I want to keep reading.

2. The Martian by Andy Weir 8%

This is going to be a movie and sounds really cool how a man named Mark Watney becomes the first person to be stuck on Mars. The story is about how he comes to survive Mars and get over the struggles he face. Like water, food, and air. I don’t really know about this book I enjoy the humor behind it and the fact that Mark has to think on his feet with what he has. However there is so much Science and things that I don’t understand that drives me a little insane.

3. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor 60%

This is about Karou  who is a art student by day and a teeth collector at night. That was until handprints started showing up on doorways and Karou ends up on her own trying to make her way back. Am still reading this book and to me its starting to seem like City of Bones in the how long it takes me to read this book. This book is good but I put it down and haven’t really thought about picking it up just yet.

4. The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski 71%

I keep going back and forth with this book. This is a book about a girl named Camryn Bennett who has enough of her life and gets on a bus to anywhere. I didn’t know this was a road trip book when I first started this. Or that it was told in both Camryn and Andrews POV. However I love both of these characters and enjoy reading about there adventure. I really want to take a road trip now.

5. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning  65%

This is about a girl names MacKayla who goes to Ireland to find out who killed her older sister after getting a frantic voicemail from her. And what MacKayla gets when she lands is more than she bargained for. I keep borrowing this from the library thanks to Overdrive and at first I flew this book but I guess I went to fast. Because with only like one hundred and eight pages left and I just haven’t.

6. Soulless by Gail Carriger 40%

Alexia Tarabotti has three problems going for her. One she is soulless, two Alexia is a spinster, and third she is Italian. However when weird things start to happen with supernatural with her right in the middle. With the help of Lord Maccon Alexia tries to find out what is happening.  Another back and forth read for me that am e-booking. The story is set in the 1870s England and apparently this is not a good time period for me. I enjoy the humor though between Alexia and Lord Maccon. However that’s all I like as of current with this book.

7.Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge 75%

A beauty and the beast re-telling with a little a dark plot line rolled into one. I stopped reading this for the fact that the little sister ticked me off. She is spoiled rotten and I rather that Nix didn’t go back home for her family is madding. Though she did tell them off somewhat so that’s something.

8.A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin 24%

This book will probably be a current reads forever. Two chapters a month is how far I get. Everyone know what this book is about and so I’ll just say I’ve enjoyed what I have read so far.

9.Doon by Carey Corp 71%

Time traveling with two best friends as they were visiting Ireland for the summer. I loved this book even though I would love some of the brothers POVs. I need to get back into this series since I have the other two books.

10.Infinite Jodi Meadows 26%

Its the finally book about Ana the Newsoul who is surround by Old souls. Now Ana with friends need to find out the secrets behind the reincarnations and Janan the one who stared it all. I have been dying to read this book after reading the first two so quickly. However its still on my currently reads instead.

So here is my top ten current reads that I have on goodreads. There are others on my shelf that I haven’t even touched in a while. So is anyone else has a huge current reads list? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and see you Friday.

Happy reading 🙂
